June 8, 2012: Subject: Save the date! CSE 125 Game Demos Fri 6/8/12 4-5:30pm in Atkinson Main Auditorium

What: CSE 125 game demos

Day: Friday, June 8

Time: 4-5:30pm

Where: Atkinson Main Auditorium (Calit2 directly NW of CSE building)

Info: http://cse125.ucsd.edu/cse125/2012/groups.html

The groups in the Spring 2012 CSE 125 class will be presenting and demoing their projects on Friday, June 8, from 4-5:30pm in the Atkinson Main Auditorium.  The demo is open to the general public, and we would like to invite everyone to join us (and a few to participate!). See below for directions.

The goal of CSE 125 is for the students to experience the design and implementation of a large, complex, distributed software system with real-time constraints, and do it in large groups.  For motivation, the project assignment was to build a distributed, real-time, 3D, multiplayer game...in 10 weeks.

This course is also an opportunity for the students to take everything that they have learned in their classes over the years and apply it to one project in one quarter.  As you'll see, they have learned a

tremendous amount: the projects are amazing.  For a preview, see the group web pages for screenshots:

Each group web page also has a project design, project specification, weekly status reports, and more screenshots -- together, these documents chart the progress of the groups and the evolution of their projects throughout the quarter.

At the demos we will start with a brief introduction to the course, and then each of the groups will present and demo their project. During each demo, select people from the audience will have the opportunity to play as well.

We hope you can join us!

CSE 110 Final Project Presentations, Wed, 6/6, 11am-2pm, CSE 1202

During the past 9 weeks, the 13 groups of 9, 10 or 11 students in CSE 110, Software Engineering, each designed and implemented a project tracking and analyzing CrossFit workouts.   Their glimpse into the business rules of CrossFit began during a discussion section when two certified CrossFit trainers came to campus and took students through a team workout on the grassy area behind Center Hall.  Students were either participants or spectators taking turns running 100 meters, then doing 20 squats, running 100 meters, and finishing with 20 burpees.  Students putting forth so much physical effort was amazing to see and definitely unique for a CSE class!

During the quarter each team produced artifacts, designed and created an Android app, or web app, or some combination given freedom in both functionality and technology as long as their application is useful.  This tenth Wednesday of the quarter, during their scheduled lab time, is when the students will present the results of their efforts.

The CSE 110 term project presentations are in CSE 1202 today, June 6th from 11am - 2pm.  We welcome you to come to share in their creations.

The team membership list is found here:

We hope to see you there!
