Miscellaneous Course Information

Index Numbers

Everything you do or buy for UCSD coursework is recharged to a departmental index number, CSEUG03 (the "03" portion corresponds to the academic year.) for undergraduate courses, CSEGR03 for graduate courses. This number is NOT to be given to TA's unless they are in charge of copying. Funds for each course are limited and closely monitored. Personal work or costs associated with other schools or departments must be arranged for separately.

Office Space

Instructors are assigned an office space at the time of appointment. Please note that due to limited space, we can only make the office available to temporary lecturers during the quarter that they teach. Thus, it is important that temporary lecturers remove all personal property by the end of the quarter in which they teach.

Fax Machine

The departmental fax machine is located in the fax and supply room (2229A). The fax number is 858-534-7029.

ID Cards

Instructors must have a photo ID to use the library, copy machines, and for various campus facilities. The Executive Assistant to the Chair will provide the necessary form for requesting a card. Photos are taken on Mondays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Bursar's Office.

Long Distance Telephone Calls

Due to limited budget, the department does not have provisions for long distance telephone calls. Directions on how to use your own credit card/calling card can be found in the front of the UCSD Directory. If you have coursework related calls, please contact a departmental Instructional Support Assistant.

Mail

The department mail code is 0404 - all on-campus mail addressed to you should include this code. If you wish to send or receive something via UPS or FedEx, see our administrative assistant. Your campus street address is:

Department of Computer Science and Engineering
University of California, San Diego
9500 Gilman Drive, MC 0404
La Jolla, CA 92093-0404

Parking

Academic appointees are entitled to an "A" parking permit, which can be paid for by monthly payroll deduction, check or cash. A temporary "A" permit is also available at the Cashier's office. You will need a letter from the department with your job title and job code to get this temporary permit. See the Executive Assistant to the Chair for this letter.

Administrative Support

An administrative assistant is available for assistance with coursework preparation. He/she will order supplies and audio-visual equipment, assist with duplicating needs, and as time permits, do light typing of course material. Assistants are not authorized to hand out exams to students.
